Hudson is a somewhat small coastal town (i.e. on the ocean, a bay, or inlet) located in the state of Florida. With a population of 12,944 people and 13 associated neighborhoods, Hudson is the 190th largest community in Florida.Unlike some towns, Hudson isn’t mainly white- or blue-collar. Instead, the most prevalent occupations for people in Hudson are a mix of both white- and blue-collar jobs. Overall, Hudson is a town of sales and office workers, managers, and professionals. There are especially a lot of people living in Hudson who work in management occupations (17.61%), sales jobs (16.64%), and office and administrative support (11.56%). One interesting thing about the economy is that relatively large numbers of people worked from their home: 12.77% of the workforce. While this number may seem small overall, as a fraction of the total workforce this is high compared to the rest of the county. These workers are often telecommuters who work in knowledge-based, white-collar professions. For example, Silicon Valley has large numbers of people who telecommute. Other at-home workers may be self-employed people who operate small businesses out of their homes. It is a fairly quiet town because there are relatively few of those groups of people who have a tendency to be noisy. (Children, for example, often can't help themselves from being noisy, and being parents ourselves, we know!) Hudson has relatively few families with children living at home, and is quieter because of it. Renters and college students, for their own reasons, can also be noisy. Hudson has few renters and college students. But the biggest reason it is quieter in Hudson than in most places in America, is that there are just simply fewer people living here. If you think trees make good neighbors, Hudson may be for you. Hudson is also nautical, which means that parts of it are somewhat historic and touch the ocean or tidal bodies of water, such as inlets and bays. Quite often, nautical areas such as these attract visitors and locals who come to enjoy the scenery and various waterfront activities. In Hudson, however, the average commute to work is quite long. On average, people spend 30.99 minutes each day getting to work, which is significantly higher than the national average. In terms of college education, Hudson is nearly on par with the US average for all cities of 21.84%: 17.75% of adults 25 and older in Hudson have a bachelor's degree or advanced degree. The per capita income in Hudson in 2022 was $33,383, which is middle income relative to Florida and the nation. This equates to an annual income of $133,532 for a family of four. However, Hudson contains both very wealthy and poor people as well. The people who call Hudson home describe themselves as belonging to a variety of racial and ethnic groups. The greatest number of Hudson residents report their race to be White, followed by Black or African-American. Important ancestries of people in Hudson include German, Irish, English, Italian, and Polish. The most common language spoken in Hudson is English. Other important languages spoken here include Spanish and Italian.
