Coal City is a somewhat small village located in the state of Illinois. With a population of 5,741 people and two associated neighborhoods, Coal City is the 316th largest community in Illinois.Unlike some villages where white-collar or blue-collar occupations dominate the local economy, Coal City is neither predominantly one nor the other.
