Lopez Island is a very small coastal town (i.e. on the ocean, a bay, or inlet) located in the state of Washington. With a population of 3,311 people and two associated neighborhoods, Lopez Island is the 175th largest community in Washington. Lopez Island home prices are not only among the most expensive in Washington, but Lopez Island real estate also consistently ranks among the most expensive in America.Unlike some towns where white-collar or blue-collar occupations dominate the local economy, Lopez Island is neither predominantly one nor the other. Instead, it has a mixed workforce of both white- and blue-collar jobs. Overall, Lopez Island is a town of professionals, managers, and service providers. There are especially a lot of people living in Lopez Island who work in management occupations (19.52%), sales jobs (8.95%), and teaching (5.98%). Of important note, Lopez Island is also a town of artists. Lopez Island has more artists, designers and people working in media than 90% of the communities in America. This concentration of artists helps shape Lopez Island’s character. Telecommuters are a relatively large percentage of the workforce: 23.53% of people work from home. While this number may seem small overall, as a fraction of the total workforce it is high relative to the nation. These workers are often telecommuters who work in knowledge-based, white-collar professions. For example, Silicon Valley has large numbers of people who telecommute. Other at-home workers may be self-employed people who operate small businesses out of their homes. Another notable thing is that Lopez Island is a major vacation destination. Much of the town’s population is seasonal: many people own second homes and only live there part-time, during the vacation season. The effect on the local economy is that many of the businesses are dependent on tourist dollars, and may operate only during the high season. As the vacation season ends, Lopez Island’s population drops significantly, such that year-round residents will notice that the city is a much quieter place to live. The town is relatively quiet, having a combination of lower population density and few of those groups of people who have a tendency to be noisy. For example, Lopez Island has relatively fewer families with younger children, and/or college students. Combined, this makes Lopez Island a pretty quiet place to live overall. If you like quiet, you will probably enjoy it here. Lopez Island is also nautical, which means that parts of it are somewhat historic and touch the ocean or tidal bodies of water, such as inlets and bays. Such areas are often places that visitors and locals go for waterfront activities or taking in the scenery. One of the benefits of Lopez Island is that there is very little traffic. The average commute to work is 18.38 minutes, which is substantially less than the national average. Not only does this mean that the drive to work is less aggravating, but noise and pollution levels are lower as a result.Do you like to read, write and learn?
