Lincoln City profile

Living in Lincoln City

Lincoln City is a somewhat small coastal city (i.e. on the ocean, a bay, or inlet) located in the state of Oregon. With a population of 9,966 people and five associated neighborhoods, Lincoln City is the 60th largest community in Oregon.

Telecommuters are a relatively large percentage of the workforce: 13.40% of people work from home. While this number may seem small overall, as a fraction of the total workforce it is high relative to the nation. These workers are often telecommuters who work in knowledge-based, white-collar professions. For example, Silicon Valley has large numbers of people who telecommute. Other at-home workers may be self-employed people who operate small businesses out of their homes.

Another notable thing is that Lincoln City is a major vacation destination. Much of the city’s population is seasonal: many people own second homes and only live there part-time, during the vacation season. The effect on the local economy is that many of the businesses are dependent on tourist dollars, and may operate only during the high season. As the vacation season ends, Lincoln City’s population drops significantly, such that year-round residents will notice that the city is a much quieter place to live.

One of the nice things about Lincoln City is that it is nautical, which means that parts of it are somewhat historic and touch the ocean or tidal bodies of water, such as inlets and bays. Because of this, visitors and locals will often go to these areas to take in the scenery or to enjoy waterfront activities.

One of the benefits of Lincoln City is that there is very little traffic. The average commute to work is 16.70 minutes, which is substantially less than the national average. Not only does this mean that the drive to work is less aggravating, but noise and pollution levels are lower as a result.

As is often the case in a small city, Lincoln City doesn't have a public transportation system that people use for their commute.

In terms of college education, Lincoln City is somewhat better educated than the 21.84% who have a 4-year degree or higher in the typical US community: 28.09% of adults 25 and older in the city have at least a bachelor's degree.

The per capita income in Lincoln City in 2022 was $38,282, which is upper middle income relative to Oregon and the nation. This equates to an annual income of $153,128 for a family of four. However, Lincoln City contains both very wealthy and poor people as well.

Lincoln City is a very ethnically-diverse city. The people who call Lincoln City home describe themselves as belonging to a variety of racial and ethnic groups. The greatest number of Lincoln City residents report their race to be White, followed by Asian. Lincoln City also has a sizeable Hispanic population (people of Hispanic origin can be of any race). People of Hispanic or Latino origin account for 10.09% of the city’s residents. Important ancestries of people in Lincoln City include German, English, Irish, Scottish, and European.

The most common language spoken in Lincoln City is English. Other important languages spoken here include Spanish and Polish.
