Estero profile

Living in Estero

Estero is a medium-sized coastal village (i.e. on the ocean, a bay, or inlet) located in the state of Florida. With a population of 37,730 people and 11 associated neighborhoods, Estero is the 94th largest community in Florida. Much of the housing stock in Estero was built relatively recently. The construction of new real estate can often be taken as an indication that the local Estero economy is robust, and that jobs or other amenities are attracting an influx of new residents. This seems to be the case in Estero, where the median household income is $100,543.00.

Housing costs in Estero are among some of the highest in the nation, although real estate prices here don't compare to real estate prices in the most expensive communities in Florida.

Also of interest is that Estero has more people living here who work in computers and math than 95% of the places in the US.

One interesting thing about the economy is that relatively large numbers of people worked from their home: 17.94% of the workforce. While this number may seem small overall, as a fraction of the total workforce this is high compared to the rest of the county. These workers are often telecommuters who work in knowledge-based, white-collar professions. For example, Silicon Valley has large numbers of people who telecommute. Other at-home workers may be self-employed people who operate small businesses out of their homes.

Another notable thing is that Estero is an extremely popular vacation destination. A significant portion of the population is seasonal. During the vacation season, the village experiences a large influx of people who take up residence in second homes they own in the area. As the vacation season ends, the population drops again, leaving behind a substantially quieter and smaller village.

Estero is also nautical, which means that parts of it are somewhat historic and touch the ocean or tidal bodies of water, such as inlets and bays. Quite often, nautical areas such as these attract visitors and locals who come to enjoy the scenery and various waterfront activities.

Even though Estero is not a small village, it doesn't have a public transportation system that anybody uses for their daily commute to work.

The citizens of Estero are among the most well-educated in the nation: 48.87% of adults in Estero have a bachelor's degree or even advanced degree, whereas the average US city has 21.84% holding at least a bachelor's degree.

The per capita income in Estero in 2022 was $68,731, which is wealthy relative to Florida and the nation. This equates to an annual income of $274,924 for a family of four. However, Estero contains both very wealthy and poor people as well.

Estero is a somewhat ethnically-diverse village. The people who call Estero home describe themselves as belonging to a variety of racial and ethnic groups. The greatest number of Estero residents report their race to be White, followed by Asian. Important ancestries of people in Estero include German, Irish, English, Italian, and Polish.
